James Schramko here. Today, I want to talk about something that is essential to understand about you and how you relate to your market. Let me explain.
I’ve been doing my rounds. I coach a few business owners, and I speak to them. And in the top group, there are about 32 people. But what astounds me is, within those 32 people who are all around the world, is I can go from absolute extremes, one extreme to the other. One person is like, in a panic, needs to quit, the world’s caving in on them. And then another person is like, thriving, they see this huge opportunity. They’re going in amazing space with their business. And here’s the thing. They are in different places, and they’re in different parts of the world. But even if they’re in the same place, the most important point to understand is, we create our own reality.
So we’re all at different stages of awareness of where the market is. We are in different markets, all together. If you’re on the East Coast of the United States, if you’re in New York, you might be feeling doom and gloom. If you’re in Sydney, and you’re seeing the curve starting to flatten and the share market starting to increase, yesterday, for example, was the biggest single-day increase for four decades. Little rays of sunshine are popping into the marketplace in one area, but not in another.
Now, people process things at different speeds, including you. Maybe you’ve been through the cycles of grief, maybe you were in that closed-down panic state. Maybe the world around you has changed. You can’t get food on the supermarket shelf, your business is getting a few cancellation requests. You’ve got to pay attention to where you’re at in that cycle. And also remember that not everyone else is feeling exactly the same as you.
So, what does that actually mean? How do we use this information? If you happen to be in a down, doom and gloom cycle, then look for someone who’s positive and ask them why. What opportunities are they seeing? How are they utilizing the current situation? If you are in a positive situation, then see if you can help others to level up a bit. But aside from that, remember that not all your markets are at the same state. Lots of different countries are at different phases in their marketing economic situation, like different stimuli. In America versus Australia, for example. The UK is a totally different market altogether. So maybe some of your campaigns, you can focus on certain areas where there’s more positivity.
So that’s really my point. After Cambridge Analytica, we’ve really learned that each person is experiencing their own version of the internet. They’re experiencing their own awareness cycle, how they handle risk and situations. Changing dramatically is different for every person. So as the business owner, it’s just essential. Get a grip on your own status, where you’re at in that cycle. And remember, there are plenty of other people out there at different stages of the cycle.
I hope this is useful. Let me know if you like this sort of videos. I’ll make a few more.
