James Schramko here with a staffing tip. One of the best documents you can have when you have a new team member is an expectations document and that’s where you outline what your new person can expect from you and your business and also what you expect from your new person so that the rules are upfront, the guidelines are clear, there can be no ambiguity and this will be the document you can use to do reviews.
You can assess performance and you can make sure that your new hire is feeling very clear and safe around what the job actually is because believe it or not, a lot of people are getting a job because they want to feel secure. They want to have a nurturing environment and providing them this clarity is good for them and it’s good for you. So, set your expectations document up. If you’ve got existing team members then roll them out over time so that everyone knows where they stand.
