James Schramko here. I want to share with you one of the simplest reporting systems known to man.
As you grow your business, you’re going to need to keep an eye on some of the numbers. Some numbers are less important than others. For example, it’s not that important how many Instagram followers you have, how many fans you have on your page.
But it is very important to know how many emails you’re sending out. Because each time you send an email, you have a call to action. This is what I would call a lead metric. It’s an indicator of how many sales you’re going to make. So, we track things like how many visits to our website in the last 30 days, how many emails we send. And, of course, we track some lag metrics which are things that have already happened — how many members do we actually have on recurring subscription for both of my main programs?
We have someone in our team pull these numbers from the various places whether it’s Google Analytics or from our Ontraport CRM system and put them into a spreadsheet and take a screenshot, and share that with our team on a daily basis. I’m sure it only takes a few minutes.
There are lots of tools out there that might automate this dashboard for you. Some of them will feed from multiple sources and it’s great if you can get them to work. Occasionally, though, they glitch and the API doesn’t work and your numbers aren’t quite accurate. So what I found is, a nice report compiled by someone in my team gets us the numbers we need. And by sharing it with the team, we all know what page we’re on and we keep a finger on the pulse.
The other thing we do is, we compare this period to the same period last month and then six months ago and that gives us a very quick snapshot of the health of our business.
So, I’m curious — what sort of reporting systems or tools have you found effective in your business, if you’re doing reporting at all? Love to get your comments right where this video is.
