James Schramko here. Today, I’m going to share with you how to deal with a situation that might happen if you ever find yourself speaking at other people’s events, and maybe you get the cold shoulder from one of the other speakers.
Hey, I sometimes get a student ask me about this because the speaking industry can be a little bit cut-throat. Now, if you’re at a speaking event where they sell things, this is especially going to be true. But even at content events, you might find some of your peer group are a little bit standoffish.
Now, this could be for a few reasons. The first thing to accept is that not everyone is the same. So, you’re all going to have different preferences and there are some people who you’re just not going to get on with. Also, it doesn’t really matter what they think of you. You’re there to serve the audience, and the audience is the priority. So, make sure the audience and the host of the event are the people who you do please.
If you are getting a little bit of a weird vibe, you can always ask about it. And you could see if there’s some way that you can get a warmer reception. And, of course, if you’re trying to organize people or run things around the side of the event, this might confuse people or upset them if they’re not social types.
A lot of people, especially me, are fairly introverted. So, I don’t really look to do too much around the core thing of delivering my presentation and meeting the customers at the event. That’s the goal for me.
