James Schramko here from SuperFastBusiness. I’ve got a tip for you today if you have a team in the Philippines. So something I do with my team in the Philippines when we have our weekly meeting is I try and make them laugh. I make some jokes and I make sure they feel comfortable working in our team.
And the other thing that I do is I try and learn some of their language, because they speak Tagalog and they’re also speaking English. I have a tremendous amount of respect for their English and Tagalog capabilities and it shows that I’m really interested in them when I’m learning a few words. Certainly I can make them laugh when I get it wrong, but I try, and that’s the thing.
These are people. They’re not cogs in a machine. They’re not electrons in a computer. They’re human beings, and when you connect with the human beings in your business, and you recognize their culture, and you get to know them and understand them better, you will unlock a level of performance and potential from your team that has probably been hiding from you until you do this. I’ve met some business owners who for three or four years have not even once found out where their team member actually lives.
So my tip today is, get to know your team members on a deeper level, make them laugh, show them that you’re interested in them as a person and watch what happens.
