James Schramko here. Today, I want to share with you an idea about something a lot of people forget when they become successful.
So, when you start out, you’re on this learning curve, you’re consuming information, you’re applying it, you’re starting to get results. Of course, there are frustrations along the way. And it happens and it can take many years to be successful – five years, 10 years, 15, 20.
Look, I’m at an age in my life, where I’ve been through a lot of challenges, I’ve learned a lot of things. And the thing that people stop doing when they become successful is they stop learning.
As soon as you think you know, everything you’re toast. You’re actually stopping time and everything will start to surround you. And then you’ll be circled by this intoxicating feeling that you’re getting left behind. So my tip today is, keep learning.
Up on my whiteboard here, I’ve actually written down, “learn and create”. So I keep learning things. I get courses, I read books, I attend live events. I listen to the market, I stay in tune with my audience. And I continually evolve and innovate.
Because as the great Peter Drucker said, business is about marketing and innovation. If you’re not learning, then you’re not going to be able to innovate. So keep taking on some learning.
And I also suggest you think about doing one thing at a time. When I feel like I want to take a course or so forth, I make sure that I see if I’ve completed the last one I purchase. And I make a little rule for myself to complete the first course then that triggers me having a reward of buying the next course.
Over time, over decades, you can compile a library of courses and books that you can refer to. In fact, in one of the recent trainings I just did inside SuperFastBusiness, which was how to recruit your next team member. I actually went through some of the core training that I received in 2001.
That was 18 years ago. That was when I was flagged at the tender age of 29 years old to be a future leader in the Mercedes-Benz dealership. And they spent the best money they could spend getting the best experts in the world to come and teach us these skills. And I learned all about recruitment at that tender age.
And I was able to implement it over the next few decades to get to the point where I’m at now. I have hired hundreds of people. I’ve helped lots of clients, build teams, and I was able to pass that information on. But if I hadn’t learned it back in 2001, I wouldn’t have been able to apply it and stay at the top of my field.
So keep learning one course at a time and you’ll be continuing your success and you’ll stay in front of the pack.
