James Schramko here. I’m just rereading a book, and it’s still profoundly important. So, what’s that book? It’s a book by Richard Koch. It’s the 80/20 Way of Living. I have his business books and they’re great. And I enjoyed Perry Marshall’s book and Tim Ferriss’s book, and they all delve on the 80/20. But every time I read it, it just brings home this point – that things are not equal. That’s really it.
I like Peter Drucker’s saying – Instead of doing things right, it’s all about doing the right things. I’m paraphrasing there but that’s the point. The bottom line is there’s just so few things that actually matter. Then almost everything else is a complete waste of time. Why do I make these short videos? Well, they’re my 64:4. That’s the 80/20 of the 80/20. I know these short videos that take about a minute to make, if I do one a day, that one minute per day of video can drive my business in combination with a weekly podcast. That is insane, don’t you think?
As someone who worked eight, 10, 12, 14 hour days in the past to think that I could do a short piece of content to be in front of my perfect audience to give good advice and to lead people to my membership where I can help them even more, it’s just so profoundly powerful. And then if you get a team to support you to distribute that, that’s great. So, find those activities in your business that actually move the needle and stop doing the ones that don’t.
