In the early days of my online business, about 10 years ago, I used to fall asleep at the keyboard at 3:00 in the
morning. And then I came to this realization that I’m doing everything and it has to stop. By day, I was a general manager. By night, I was the janitor.
I was doing everything including writing articles for Ezine Articles, manning my help desk, writing sales copy, building my website, all the rest of it. That was slow progress. So then I put out this post-it note on my computer and this post-it note changed everything.
And it simply said, ‘Would Richard Branson be doing this?’ And I didn’t think he’d be writing articles for Ezine Articles. It just gave me that mental lever to start giving tasks to someone else. So, it’s a filter. It’s a rule.
It’s a motto. It’s a saying, whatever you want to call it. It’s just a device that helps you get out of being the person doing all the tasks.
So, maybe that post-it note would look good on your computer if you feel you’re doing too many of the little jobs. Would Richard Branson be doing this? In fact, I’m proud to say you could even write, “Would James Schramko be doing this?” And for a lot of the things you’re doing now, probably the answer is “No”.
