Hey James here with just a little check-in video. I wanted to make a quick video after doing my rounds speaking to my customers these last few days, and of course preparing myself and my family for these interesting times.
I just wanted to check in with you, let you know, everything’s normal over here actually. We’ve been working from home for the last 11 years. So it’s all quite normal for us. I just wanted to also put out a couple of ideas that might be useful at this time and one would be to definitely keep an eye on news and progressions. Inform yourself and educate yourself but also, make sure you limit how much social media time you have right now. One of the best things I did today is going for a surf, which I do everyday. And just getting that sunlight, being outdoors, doing something in nature, is very grounding because you need to be mentally prepared for the changes.
You need to be well-slept. You need to be calm and rational and thinking things through. What are the dominoes that are going to fall? And no doubt, there’s going to be significant challenges, changes, and I think the general population are not necessarily dealing well with that. We see, like, hoarding and panic buying, etc, stock market drops. These are all classic indicators that people are being challenged by this. They’re not used to this, there’ll be huge double-digit unemployment figures, people are losing their jobs, which is awful.
And, of course, if you know my backstory, it’s why I do what I do now. I was worried about losing my job. And I can really relate to the panic and the feeling of having that lack of security. In essence, I’ve been preparing for this time for a long time. And as I speak to my clients, a lot of them thankfully are in a reasonable position because we have talked about things that we talked about in Own the Racecourse which is protecting against single-source dependency.
As we see further restrictions, things like Amazon not stocking goods, etc., we’re going to have some difficult times. So just prepare for it. Pull out your pen and paper, start thinking about what are the segments of your business or your client base will be affected? See what you can do to help, see which parts are going to thrive. There’ll be parts that take off. I mean, obviously, there was a supermarket chain in Australia advertising for 5,000 jobs and they got 30,000 applications. I mean, this is unprecedented. In fact, that’s probably the word you’re seeing the news more than anything – unprecedented.
No doubt there will be vaccinations and progressions and after a great many loss of life and trauma, there will be some resolutions regarding the actual virus itself. But in terms of financial and economic, a lot of people are seeing their wealth eroded from investments. Hopefully, we’re able to hold some cash and not go crazy with being too leveraged because obviously this time was coming. And there will, of course, be opportunities out there. But I would also just, I just want to mention, it’s a couple of marketers out there who are being obnoxious about marketing opportunities right now. And to those people, the ones sending six emails a day and pushing hard for their opportunity, I’d say, people will remember you, and probably not for the reasons you want them to remember you.
So that’s just my note. It’s not a time to go to ground and go dark and switch off. You have to pay attention. But it’s also not a time to get all hyped-up and out of control with your marketing. I think it’s probably a good time to be buying traffic and figuring out your core thing, how you can help people and adapting. The world will not go back to the way it was before. It will be different. But as soon as the ray of sunshine comes, as soon as there’s hope and things get resolved and markets start to improve, the positivity will happen quickly. That’s the same thing that happened after our bushfires here in Australia. The same thing that happens after storms and carnage, you know. A month or two later, things have recovered and reshaped, so there will be an economic boom time after this. This is a cleanup period. So tidy your house, stay mentally healthy, make the right moves. If you’ve had losses or carnage, try and stop them fairly early. And look at where things are going to grow and plant seeds there.
I guess that’s my main message. I just felt like it was a good time to make some content. I haven’t been bombarding you with marketing messaging lately. I’ve only just scraped through our own live event like literally the last day that it would have been technically possible. And it was a bit stressful, worrying about the well-being of all the attendees and making sure that it was going to go ahead, because it felt like the roll of shadows is coming down. I’m now mobilizing my business to be able to serve people where they need our help. We are experts at living online, and now the rest of the world is waking up to our alien existence, if you like. So I’m going to be doing my best to help people.
Of course, my current members are all getting full, normal service as per usual. And thankfully, a lot of them are in a really good position because they’ve got the message. If you are looking for a resource, if you’re sitting at home and you’re a bit bored, I would suggest you have a look at my book “Work Less, Make More” because it contains some of the recipe for doing what we do and protecting yourself.
So anyway, leave your comments right near this video. If you’ve got any message or you’ve got feedback or you want to share something for other people who watch this video, pop it right below this video. And I’m interested to hear how you’re going and what’s happening out there for you.
