James Schramko here with a simple way to overcome anger and frustration. If you’re angry about something, I want you to think about this in a few different ways.
Firstly, why are you angry? What is causing the anger? Get to the root cause of it if you possibly can, try and identify that and see if it’s really worth being so angry about. Because as it turns out, according to Adlerian philosophy, and I was reading a book called Courage To Be Disliked, you don’t have to project your past back into the future. The past is gone, it’s disappeared, it does no longer exist. So if that’s the case, if you choose to be angry today, you’re actually bringing the past back into today. It’s like you want to be angry. You don’t have to be angry, you can choose. If you want, you could choose to be happier.
Now, if you’re still hung up on this, a few techniques that might help you. One is before you get all angry and stuff, think about things that you’re actually having gratitude for, because that can really deflate anger. Think about 3 things that you’re grateful for. You’re born into the planet as a nice, happy, healthy human, that you have good food on the table, that you have an opportunity.
I mean, chances are if you’re watching this, you have your own business or you aspire to have your own business. We live in a world where this is possible that we have the leverage available to us of the internet where we could travel and we can still run our business. Grateful for the friends and family in your life, how much they have contributed to having a wonderful, rich life. Think about all the things you’re happy for before you get too angry about whatever’s keeping you down and recognize that anger is just a passing moment. You don’t have to keep bringing it into the future, that it will go.
There will be a time when you’re happier. So look forward to that and move yourself towards that space by having intent and looking for things that are good, that are coming in the future that you’re excited about. Set yourself a date for something that you really look forward to. As I record this, I’m heading off to the Maldives which I do every year. And I am absolutely so excited. I’ve got to do a few calls today, make a few videos, but I’ll happily do it. And I’m not angry about it because I know the reward is coming and I’m very, very excited about it. So set yourself up to be happy.
