James Schramko here, and one of the best podcasts I’ve ever recorded was with Nam Baldwin who is a mindset and success coach for athletes.
So, Nam Baldwin teaches world champions – like Mick Fanning, for example, a world champion, multiple world champion surfer – things like mindset techniques, dealing with pressure. This guy was nibbled on by a shark. He had relatives pass away, he had a marriage break up. He had a lot of things going on, Mick Fanning. So, what does Nam Baldwin teach him? He teaches him the NEAT acronym, and it’s really good if you’re scared or under pressure.
N is for Normal. It’s normal that things will happen. There will be setbacks. E is for Expect it. We expected this. We’re not even surprised or taken too far off of our course, because we expect this. A is we Accept it. We just accept that this is a part of growth, a part of moving forward. And T stands for Tidy up. That’s the mental tidy up where we just clean up our mind around this and then we move forward. We release it and move on.
So, as you’re going about your successful career, just remember: it is normal and we expect and we accept that things are going to happen that challenge you, and then we tidy up and move forward.
