James Schramko here and today I want to talk about what you do if one of your team members is no longer performing at the level that you had expected.
Well, the best thing you can do to start with is actually set aside some time to talk about your expectations. And you can talk about your observations. You could say,”Listen, I’ve observed these behaviors happening. My expectations were here, the performance is falling here. So what I’d like to do is bridge that gap. So, do we need to do some training? Do I need to clarify the expectations? Is there something that’s going on you’d like to talk about? I’m here for you. I want you to go well. I want you to perform well. Is there some training you need? Can we support you in any way to make it easier for you to get to those expectations?”
And then you set a review point to see if those expectations have been met. Now, at that point, if they’re not, there are other options and I’ll talk about those in another video. But if they have been met, then offer up some praise, say “Job well done,” and you’ve got a higher performing team member again.
