James Schramko here with a word about stress.
Interestingly, not all stress is bad. There is such a thing as good stress. So if you had absolutely no stress, you’d probably be so relaxed that you would basically achieve nothing. So you have to do something even to go out and exist, you’re going to exert stress, you know, transporting yourself, getting food, these sort of basic things involve a little bit of stress.
I remember this perfect story someone told me about racing car tires. When I was with Mercedes-Benz, we learned about the stress that goes on a tire. Now, for a tire to grip, it needs to actually have some stress. So as you’re going around a corner, it actually stresses up a bit and the key is, of course, not to take it too far past the point where it actually slips, and so that would be a tire sliding out.
Now I see in business, a lot of people actually put too much stress and they do slide out. They burn out, they get exhausted, they become unproductive, they get disenchanted and life becomes meaningless. I’ve covered a lot of the remedies for this in my book, Work Less Make More, which you can get on Amazon or Audible. There’s certainly links on my website and it talks about how you can work less and make more.
So if you’re finding you’re too stressed pull it back a bit. If you have no stress at all, then you’re probably not pushing the envelope enough and you could actually get a little bit more out of your life. So I’m not an advocate for absolutely no work. I do work hard when I work, but I put boundaries on it so that I never spin out of control.
Hopefully, this is helpful. I’m James Schramko. Look forward to the next video.
