James Schramko here, and today, my surf was tough. It was really hard, actually. The waves were big, I mean like the size of a one-story house. And at that sort of level, it gets pretty difficult for me. I’ve been doing this for four years, I go pretty much every day. And there’s guys out there who are very comfortable, and they’re surfing the waves well. And then there’s guys walking down to the beach with foam boards, who are probably brand new, and they’re going to get absolutely smashed.
In fact, they won’t even be able to paddle out. But they know so little about it, they don’t even know that they won’t be able to paddle out. And it’s a great business metaphor.
So this is a great reminder.
Wherever you’re at in business, don’t compare yourself to the very, very experienced people if you’re just starting out. And if you’re just starting out, have a lot of respect for the amount of time and effort and process that the people who are very experienced have put into it.
And then you’ll be in a better frame. Compete with yourself, and be realistic, and enjoy and be safe.
