Google have still got market share we just had a look versus last year it’s still about the same and it’s significantly more than Bing and Yahoo put together. It’s still more than double. That’s why we’re always talking about Google. They’re still the dominant player.
In June and July, Google actually updated 86 things to their algorithm and it’s a big long list but I went through it. What you’ll find is this. It’s all about page freshness, it’s all about page quality, and it’s about the ability to detect synonyms and dictionary definitions. So they’re really honing on things that make a better search result.
All the things we talk about each week. Original unique content. Hand rewritten if you’re going to spread it out. And update to your site often. The other thing that I think is they’re pretty focused on brands and you should be getting a natural mix of links to your site with just your site name or your brand name. Rather than just keyword bombing your homepage. Every single week we see it. Somebody’s just been getting links to their homepage with just keywords. You’ve got to stop doing that. Have at least one of your keywords that you get us to help you with be your brand name or your straight URL.
The other thing I think they’ve been paying attention to is image quality. They’re trying to get better image search results so remember to name all of your images with an appropriate relevant name for whatever that image is. You’ll see that I put images on my news update posts because I know that images improve the quality of the search results. It helps the post get a really well rated by humans and of course it gives me another chance that pinning it on Pinterest and getting a search result.
